To become an accredited occupational therapy assistant (OTA) you are required to complete an Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) accredited two year (5 semester) associate degree program. This provides students with the required knowledge, skills, and behaviors of a OTA and prepares them to take the national certifying exam for occupational therapist assistants (NBCOT) which is required in most states to work as a OTA.
